Antoine Caron Cabana

Who is Antoine from the TAIGA club?

I got my first SUP Surf in 2012, which was at the time, my only option if I wanted to surf. After a partial knee reconstruction, you have to take it slow!. The sport was in its infancy, especially in North America- TAIGA allowed me to participate in a design that would meet my needs and fill a gap in the market. I also worked with them on the design of a full range of SUP Surf, Touring and Racing boards. These experiences gave me the opportunity to travel to Hawaii, Tofino and the Magdalen Islands, as well as collaborate and participate in many other projects and adventures. TAIGA's open-mindedness and involvement are what still drive me today, 9 years later.

When you don’t have both feet in the water, what do you do?

I try to keep a balance between work, friends, family and sports. I am involved in many projects, but I always make sure that my schedule fits with the waves.

What is your favorite spot (on the water, obviously) and why?

I spent a lot of time SUP-Surfing on Vancouver Island... I think camping on the beaches of Sombrio, watching the surf break with a huge south swell remains my favorite spot. The caves on the Magdalen Islands, the Sandbar on Plum Island, the long rights of Point Judith in the fall... There are too many spots to count!

That said, I also love exploring the Marais de la Rivière aux Cerises at the mouth of Lake Memphremagog in the fall... it always gives me the impression of being in the Louisiana bayous.

Your go- to TAIGA board(s) and why?

As a SUP Surf and Touring enthusiast, I would say that my favorites are, by far, the SUP Surf El Cabron and the Cabronito which is less bulky Otherwise, I like the Kazuzu for exploring and camping.

If you could choose one ‘dream destination’ for paddleboarding, where would it be and why?

I would love to explore Argentina or Iceland.

If you had one piece of advice to give to a rookie who doesn't know the wonderful world of water sports yet, what would it be?
