Geneviève Diotte
Who is Gen from the TAIGA club?
Born and raised in New Brunswick, I’m Acadian and in love with the sea and everything in between! I’m especially passionate about surfing and I feel very lucky to live near the waves! I love to travel, meet new people, learn new things and am always ready for an adventure! From playing in the water to hiking, anything that gets me moving makes me happy. I'm into all that involves the word "board": paddle boarding, kite boarding, longboarding, snowboarding, etc., but I also have an artistic side and love to create things!
When you don’t have both feet in the water, what do you do?
When I'm not playing in the water, I'm watching the forecast to see when I can get back in! Otherwise, I'm always on the go, and if you're looking for me, you'll probably find me with my friends at Cielo's or doing crafts, macramé, or drawing.
What is your favorite spot (on the water, obviously) and why?
My favorite paddle boarding spot is actually at an event that takes place in Grande-Anse, NB in April. We "scout" the area almost every day, waiting for the perfect moment when the ice breaks and the wind dies to go paddle between the icebergs. We’ll even dive from the top of the glaciers and go for a swim. On the icebergs we enjoy fresh oysters, local beer and maple taffy. Every year it's different and that's what makes the spot and the event so magical!
Your go-to TAIGA board(s) and why?
I ride the Eska SUP in calm waters and the Longboard 9' surf in the waves! Even if the Eska is perfect on the river and in the waves, I love to ride the longboard in the swell that the Acadian Peninsula offers!
If you could choose one ‘dream destination’ for paddleboarding, where would it be and why?
So many options are possible here since the spots to discover are countless! However, if I had to pick one place, it would be somewhere with rivers and canyons, side by side. Spending a day on Lake Powell or a few days on the Dirty Devil River are definitely on my bucket List!
