By Anne-Sophie Robitaille

I had a dream that I was heading to the U.S. East Coast to go SUP surfing with friends. I had to grab my board quickly because we were about to leave. In my dream, I felt this incredible excitement — my inner child was bursting with joy. I was running to get my board, but I was barely moving, as if a giant elastic band was pulling me back. I never actually reached my board, but I woke up filled with that same happiness. The pure joy of paddling. The next day, I went to see my board with a smile on my face, thinking about the season ahead.

This season, the desire is strong — the desire to be ready. Ready in my body, in my mind, and with the right equipment.

How do you want to begin your practice this year?

Have you ever had the experience of riding a board that was too small for you? Too big? Or stepping onto your board with your whole body shaking? Sometimes those experiences are funny — but it’s much more enjoyable to start your season feeling strong and equipped with gear that truly suits you. It will inevitably boost your confidence on the water.

I don’t know about you, but even with all the perfect ingredients (confidence, physical ability, and the right equipment), the first time I get back on the water — and honestly, almost every time — I feel excitement mixed with nervousness. In those moments, I use my ritual to reconnect with myself and with the environment around me. I prepare with intention and attention, whether I’m placing my board on the roof of my car, inflating it, or warming up. This ritual of connection helps me mentally prepare for the water and makes me love this sport even more.

There’s a paddle board fitness challenge starting April 1 if you’d like to prepare for your season. It’s a physical training program designed to improve balance, mobility, core strength, and full-body strength. We’ll even prepare your feet! It’s also a space to connect, talk about SUP, learn different techniques, and fully embrace the SUP lifestyle. The challenge is online, and registration is open at all times : SUBSCRIBE
