SUP & Surfboard Repairs
A few scratches, dings, and bumps are part of every board's story. Whether you own a hard board, a surfboard, or an inflatable SUP, many repairs can help extend the life of your equipment.
How can I repair my board?
Minor Repairs
Many small repairs can be done at home:
- Re-gluing a loose EVA deck pad
- Re-gluing a small section of deck pad
- Removing light scratches using an automotive polishing compound
- Repairing small dings on hard boards or surfboards with 5-minute epoxy
- Patching a small leak on an inflatable SUP
- Tightening or replacing a valve on an inflatable SUP
A "ding" is a small impact that cracks or punctures the fiberglass surface of your board. Don't be fooled, even a small ding can lead to bigger issues if left unrepaired.
Steps to follow
- Take your board out of the water immediately to prevent water from entering the core;
- Let the board dry completely in the sun;
- If you see small bubbles coming out of the damaged area, there may be water inside. You can try to remove it by applying gentle suction to the hole with your mouth;
- Once the board is completely dry inside and out, lightly sand the damaged area;
- Apply a suitable epoxy resin to seal the repair.
Most minor punctures can be repaired at home using the repair kit included with your board.
Steps to follow
- Locate the leak. Inflate the board and spray soapy water over the suspected area. Bubbles will reveal the source of the leak;
- Clean and dry the area completely;
- Cut a patch with rounded corners, ensuring it extends at least 1" (2.5 cm) beyond the damaged area on all sides;
- Apply the adhesive according to the manufacturer's instruction;
- Firmly press the patch onto the damaged area and remove any trapped air bubbles;
- Allow the repair to cure completely before inflating the board.
*Do not inflate or use the board until the adhesive has fully cured.
